Bronze and marble bookend, 'Hercules'

The course of knowledge is hard to stop, but may be detained for a while with this extraordinary bookend. Cast of oxidized bronze and set in marble, it personifies Hercules, the Roman name for Heracles, the greatest hero in Greek mythology. Jacqueline Cavalcanti's sculpture exudes the strength of this legendary character, said to be the son of Zeus and the mortal Alcmena.
